1. Use a Proper Saddle Rack
Always store your saddle on a wider, well-shaped saddle rack that supports the saddle evenly and mimics a horse’s back. Try to avoid things like hanging saddles on fences or stall doors for extended periods of time and resting your saddle on uneven surfaces.
Narrow or improperly shaped racks create pressure points that can compress panels and distort the tree over time. This can alter saddle fit and potentially lead to discomfort for your horse.
If possible, choose:
● A wooden, padded, or wider metal saddle rack
● A rack with a wide support base
2. Store in the Right Environment
Leather should be kept in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space. Avoid damp tack rooms, direct sunlight, or heat sources, which can cause mold, mildew, or cracking. Storing your saddle in the correct environment is critical for preventing long-term damage.
